Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium

Workshops and science shows can add an unique and exciting twist to your school visit to Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium. The activities have been designed with the National Curriculum in mind and provide meaningful and exciting experiences that are not always possible in the classroom. Designed and led by members of the Education team who are professional science communicators dedicated to inspiring future generations of scientists.Activities are delivered to class sized groups in our dedicated workshop spaces. Often two workshops can be delivered at the same time and school visitors can book multiple workshops in a day.

Most activities offered can by delivered in your school by Winchester Science Centre’s Outreach Team. These include hands-on practical activities often using equipment not available in schools.A large state-of-the-art mobile planetarium with presenter is available for outreach. This inflatable digital dome brings the 360° experience directly to audiences in schools, workplaces or event venues.

The dome is highly portable and quick to set up. It comes with an astronomy expert who can present live astronomy planetarium shows and/or play 360° fulldome film shows on a variety of topics. Up to six shows can be shown with each hire.

The Science Centre is passionate about science communication. The planetarium presenters are knowledgeable, engaging with audiences and happy to answer any questions about astronomy after each show as all have University-level astronomy qualifications.
